Who We Are
Friends of Fido Rhode Island is a grass-roots group of Rhode Island dog lovers who are volunteering to improve the lives of outdoor dogs in Rhode Island.
Objectives & Goals:
1. We are currently awaiting federal approval as a non-profit. We have been approved as a Rhode Island state non-profit organization.
2. Our next goals will be to provide the following to outdoor dogs in Rhode Island:
- Safe, climate appropriate dog housing
- Heated, non-tipping water buckets
- Durable toys
- Veterinary care, such as spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and de-worming
3. Our ultimate goal is to get dogs off chains and into fenced areas. This is a more difficult than it sounds due to a variety of factors, so we hope to start small, build a quality organization, and work toward this amazing, fulfilling goal.
Mission Statement:
Friends of Fido’s mission is to serve and improve quality of life for Rhode Island’s outdoor dogs by providing owners with resources and education. FoF is a non-profit organization and provides all services free of charge and without judgement or prejudice. Our ultimate goal is to assist as many outdoor Rhode Island dogs as possible.
Who We Are NOT:
FoF RI recognizes that many dogs live outside perfectly happily, some even prefer it! Our goal is not to focus on dogs with weather appropriate body condition and coat, weather appropriate shelter, regular access to fresh water, quality diet, and plenty of human interaction and contact.
Additionally, FoF RI is not an animal rights organization, nor an adoption/rescue/foster organization. We are happy to refer you to any of the numerous, wonderful adoption organizations in and around Rhode Island.
